Cooke wins Quebec Senior Championship: Summerlea’s Graham Cooke defended his title at the Quebec Senior Championship at Valleyfield by firing a 1-over-par 73 in the final round of the 54-hole event for a three-stroke victory over Whitlock’s Greg Wilson.
Cooke finished the tournament with a 2-under total of 214. Whitlock’s Michel Labelle was third at 220, followed by Valleyfield’s Raymond McSween at 222.
“In my last round, I was playing with the same group of leaders as in last year’s championship, which is very rare,” said Cooke, who opened the tournament with a 73 before rebounding with a 4-under 68 in the second round. “We know each other well and it is sometimes difficult to be the leader as we become a target. Still, I managed to make birdies when they made theirs and maintained my lead.”
It was the fifth Quebec senior championship for Cooke, who has earned 18 major provincial titles during his amateur career.
